PROJECT NAUTILUS · AN AIC PRODUCT IN DEVELOPMENT

Why we are building NAUTILUS

We are building NAUTILUS so customers can choose a vessel and its equipment, then bring autonomy into that installation through a licensed software platform.

Security, onboard processing and control authority belong in that product from the start. So do the records an operator needs to understand what happened.

01 / NAUTILUS

Maritime capability is a systems problem

A vessel’s behaviour depends on its hardware, software, sensors, communications, operating conditions and people. The complete installation has to be understood and tested for the job it will do.

NAUTILUS is organised around six distinct responsibilities: WAVE for communications, HORIZON for vision, RECKON for navigation state, COURSE for planning, WATCH for authority and BRIDGE for equipment integration.

Their interfaces are designed to preserve the context needed for the next decision, including source, timing, uncertainty, permission and measured outcome.

Customer control is part of the proposition

The intended commercial model combines an AIC-owned, licensed core with documented integration contracts. Customers would retain their selected equipment, operational data and the adapters they develop, under agreed terms.

Buyers should know what AIC supplies, what their own team retains and who maintains each part over time. The pilot and commercial proposal should answer those questions.

Security needs a complete path to the vessel

SHACE-based post-quantum communications, device identity, host hardening, signed updates and command checks are connected parts of the design. The security review must consider what an exposed edge device can reach and what its credentials can authorise if it is lost or compromised.

Operational claims must follow the reviewed deployment and its evidence. NAUTILUS is currently a development programme; the specification defines intended behaviour and release requirements.

Build the next step around something real

We welcome discussions with boat builders, integrators and mission teams that can identify a vessel, an operating need and the evidence that would make a pilot useful.

Tell us the first task you need the vessel to perform. We can identify an integration that tests its value and establishes what is needed for wider use.
